MyPlus announces their Disability Progress Award winners for 2023 recognising the progress in disability confidence that clients and individuals with disability that they have worked with have made during the previous year.
MyPlus provides progressive employers, universities, and students with disabilities with the confidence, insight and support they need to realise new possibilities. MyPlus Recruiters' Club (MPRC) is an innovative membership forum for organisations to gain and share insights, build greater disability confidence and realise the possibilities of opening up recruitment to individuals with disabilities.
MyPlus launched their Disability Progress Awards at its Annual Reception in 2018. With over 16% of students, in higher education and 19% of working age adults having a disability, the aim of the awards are to recognise the real progress some of its clients, and their employees, have made around disability. The 2023 Disability Progress Award winners were announced at the MyPlus Annual Reception which was held in-person on the 17th of May 2023 at the offices of Herbert Smith Freehills in Central London.
The award winners and the categories were;
Enterprise Holdings for the MyPlus Students’ Club Best Company Profile Award.
A key objective of our MyPlus Recruiters’ Club is to help employers effectively engage with disabled students and to do this they have to proactively market themselves as employers of choice to this talent pool. As a member of our Recruiters’ Club employers create a company profile for our MyPlus Students’ Club careers website for disabled students.
Enterprise were chosen for their superb profile which really markets themselves as an inclusive organisation where diversity is really valued.
Jess Hayes, Enterprise Rent-A-Car for the ‘Most Powerful Personal Story Award’
Employee stories aren’t just important for employers to share when it comes to engaging with disabled students, or showcasing internally the approach to disability, they are absolutely crucial as they:
1. Bring what you say to life
2. Demonstrate that this is ‘real’
3. Can be used to show case an organisation’s culture and the support they can and do provide.
Jess’s story is incredibly easy to read and relate to for a student that has never worked before in a professional role.
James Ellery-Gower, Citi for the ‘Best Disability Speaker/Advocate Award’
Personal stories from disabled individuals are extremely powerful. Individuals who share their story not only show others what is possible and in doing so motivate and raise expectations, but when talking to employers they remind them of the unique talents that disabled people can and do have, and that are an asset in the workplace.
MyPlus regularly run disability employment events for employers, universities and students and we have been privileged to have some amazing speakers.
James has spoken at a number of our events over the years and has a wonderful way of taking you on his journey, articulating things that many of us wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing but in doing so spotlights the challenges and how they can be overcome them.
KPMG for the ‘Most Progressed Inclusive Recruitment Award’
Inclusive recruitment is absolutely key for employers who are serious about talent. Whilst ensuring your process is inclusive is paramount to success, so is your mind set.
In the student recruitment space, KPMG are doing more than the basics, they are really challenging themselves to be proactive.
Morgan Stanley for the ‘Most Successful Business-wide Engagement Award’
To make real, sustainable progress, an employer’s approach to disability has to be firm wide. As student recruiters you will never really make sustainable progress, or at least you will find it incredibly hard to, unless you engage with the firm as a whole and leverage the resources and more importantly your people.
Morgan Stanley has recognised the importance of being disability confident across the organisation as a whole, delivering disability training and internal events company wide.
MyPlus Recruiters’ Club provides employers with the knowledge, confidence and support they require to attract, recruit and develop students with disabilities or long-term health conditions. With different levels of membership packages available, MPRC members can take advantage of a calendar of events which provide the opportunity to learn about key issues, share best practice and network with others facing similar challenges, benefit from consultancy days and gain access to students by showcasing their business on the MyPlus Students’ Club website www.myplusstudentsclub.com.
