The MyPlus Recruiters’ Club hosted the Disability Café event ‘Keep an Open Mind: Shedding Light on Talent’ on 12 September in London. As the number of people with poor mental health increases, it is essential that employers recognise the importance of breaking down the stigmas associated with it. The event was well attended by careers advisors, university students and blue-chip organisations including EY, Citi and Bank of England.
The event focused on better understanding how to support individuals with poor mental health both during the recruitment process and in the workplace. Speakers from organisations including Accenture, Baker McKenzie and Enterprise Holdings offered meaningful insights into dealing with poor mental health from both personal and professional perspectives.
Attendees not only discussed the stigmas surrounding mental health but also spoke openly of their own experiences, highlighting how relevant the topic is to everyone. “The event was inspiring, energising and insightful. It re-charged my motivation to continue to work to break the stigma around mental health,” said Cecilia Da Forno, a Cohort Leader for the Civil Service Fast Stream.
Disability Café events are designed to encourage discussion of a disability-related subject in more depth while providing an opportunity to hear different views from experts, learn what other people are doing and to share best practices.
